Care Guide
Nefer is made using precious materials like sterling silver, freshwater pearls and natural gemstones. Every piece is designed to be worn and enjoyed, and with a little care, it can stay with you for many years.
The recommendations below are simply the habits I follow myself. Once your jewellery reaches you, the way it is worn, stored and cared for will ultimately determine how beautifully it ages.
Metal
Our jewellery is crafted using 925 sterling silver and finished with either a layer of rhodium or gold plating.
Silver naturally develops a patina over time when exposed to air, moisture and everyday elements. This is completely normal and simply part of the way silver ages.
Rhodium plating gives silver like finish, while gold plating adds warmth and colour. Both finishes also protect the silver beneath, but they're not permanent. With regular wear, they'll naturally soften over time, especially on pieces that experience more friction, like rings or bracelets. How quickly this happens varies from person to person and depends on factors like skin chemistry, humidity, daily wear and how the jewellery is cared for.
Pearls
Pearls, beautifully unique are more delicate and porous than most gemstones. Unlike most jewellery, pearls don't love being stored in completely airtight containers for long periods and love some natural moisture. They're happiest when they're worn and enjoyed, so don't be afraid to reach for them often.
Always let your skincare, sunscreen, perfume and makeup settle before putting on your pearls, as these products can gradually dull their natural lustre. After wearing them, simply wipe them with a soft cloth to remove any residue.
Gemstones
Every natural gemstone has its own character. They vary in hardness, colour and composition, which means no two stones are exactly alike. Small inclusions, variations in colour and natural markings are all part of what makes each piece unique.
While some gemstones are more durable than others, gentle handling is always the safest approach. Try to avoid knocking your jewellery against hard surfaces, as stones can chip, crack or loosen from their settings over time.
Keep your gemstones away from perfumes, lotions, household cleaners and other harsh chemicals, and avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or sudden changes in temperature. After wearing, simply wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove any residue.
Storing Necklaces
If your necklace is strung, always store it flat.
Avoid hanging it on jewellery stands or hooks, as the constant weight can gradually stretch and weaken the thread over time.
